When I was doing my research and planning for my products I made two plot ideas. I could not decide which plot idea was better, so I asked members of my target audience which of the two were better. I asked 3 people and I found out what they thought. Most of my audience said they preferred the 'Faces of Possession' plot idea as it was more original and unique idea as opposed to my other plot idea, 'Satanic Massacre', which was more generic and I was told that the idea of 'Satanic Massacre' was overdone. They also felt that the idea of 'Faces of Possession' would appeal more to my target audience, which is younger people, as the characters are young and relatable. The idea also seemed more realistic as it incorporated social realism, to the horror genre, which is stretching the boundaries of the genre.
One of the audience members said that she liked the concepts as it would be a twist on the classic, she liked the idea that the character are going to be killed off one my one, almost like a slasher horror, but incorporating supernatural. She also told me that I need to make it more evident why and how the characters got into the disequilibrium situation anyway, and I took that advice and I feel like I have made this evident in my final trailer. Some of my audience told me that what type of characters I should include in my narrative, for example I was told that I should include a character that needs to get possessed, a leader, one that screams a lot etc. I believe that I have included these types of characters in my final narrative, which is evident from the trailer. The character of Sarita get possessed, Will is the lead, Johnny screams a lot.

Directors Commentary
I have started the the trailer of with Todorov's disequilibrium stage. I have done this to create a sense of dystopia as this is usually the case with horror films. This makes the audience feel uneasy and the narrative of the trailer starts of with something dark so this gives the impression that the whole trailer will be apocalyptic.
I added a jump scare to make the audience feel shocked. This is a close up of the creepy girls face who the audience has just seen running away in the opening scene. This may tell the audience that according to Vladimir Propps theory, the creepy girl is the antagonist/villain.
The sound effects used are a build up of suspense and an actual scream during the jump scare. This makes the audience surprised as they do not anticipated the loud jumpy sound.
I have added a voice over of Sarita's voice saying "He made me do it.". At this moment in time the audience doesn't actually know who Sarita's character is, as she hasn't been introduced however. This tells us that there may be another villain involved someone who is a man and they made Sarita's character do bad things. This makes the audience anticipate who the man is and who said the words he made me do it. This adds to suspense and it gives a horror vibe as the whisper is somewhat creepy.
For my production logo I have used an image of a man's silhouette hanging from a tree. This gives connotations of death, which is quite typical of the horror genre.
I have added normal non-horror music after the jump scare. I have set the scene, where the narrative is taking place by adding clips of everyday shots of the city. I have also used an inter-title to tell the audience that the film is set in Birmingham.
After introducing the city I have used an inter-title - A GROUP OF FRIENDS- and I have put clips of the group of friends together, and separate clips of the friends individually. This helps introduce the friends and they may be seen as Propp's protagonists. The clip of the friends help establish their personalities and they are shown as normal teenagers. It also shows Levi Strauss' theory of binary opposites as they are shown as good against the beginning clip of the creepy girl who is seen as evil. The music, as it is normal, helps show the audience that it is real life.
I have used an inter-title that says an event that changed everything and then moved on to a clip of Sarita reading a text on her phone. These things uses Roland Barthes symbolic and Semantic codes as they give the impression that the event was bad and that something bad happened that changed their normal Utopian lives to something un-stereotypical.
I have stopped the normal music and added a jump scare of the creepy girls face again, as the audience still only know her as an antagonist. Again I have added build up sounds and a scream. To make the audience feel on edge. It also symbolizes the end of the group of friends Utopian lives as the music stops.
I have changed the music and added a more creepy child like sound, which follows conventions of a horror trailer. I have also introduced a new setting, the church. I show clips of grave stones, in the churchyard, which has connotations of death. There is also dialogue from Will saying "come on guys, it's a church, lets get in". This suggests that the friends are seeking sanctuary as they are shown running into the church. At this moment in time the audience don't know what the friends are running from, which means that the Enigma code is being used as the audience is left guessing what is going to happen next and they are not told the entire truth. The church also adds a religious concept to film which can be linked to other horror films like The Exorcist.
There is a pentagram on the floor. This sybolises the devil and makes the audience question why there is a pentagram in a church. It also makes the audience link the little girl at the begining, to the pentagram in the church. There are two blood splattered images in the pentagram. One of the little girl and one of Sarita. This makes the audience suspicious that Sarita's character is involved. The loud jump shows the audience that someone else is there, which gives supernatural connotations.
The person holding the camera, which is Sarita, drops the camera. When Sarita gets up she has a mark on her arm, this adds to Roland Barthes semantic code as it gives clues to Sarita's face with a loud sound effect reinforces this. Emily's character then goes on to saying that she's has seen the sign before. This sticks to conventions of horror films as usually marked people get possessed.
There are two jump cuts, one to Emily running away from the creepy girl, with a scream sound effects, and then to Will being pushed by an invisible thing. Emily is running away in a dark forest at night which makes the audience realise that it hasn't happened yet, and the creepy girl may come back.
We are introduced to a new character. A man in a gas mask. The audience will probably assume that he is a villain as he is part of the disequilibrium cuts.
There are lots of cuts, with suspenseful music. This adds to create tension as there are lots of jump cuts, showing villains and the group of friends being chased by the villains. This builds the narrative to show that after they left the church bad things started happening to them.
The font I have used is a hand written font which is in white and on a black background. The font is simple and from the audience feedback I have received, I have found that it looks creepy and fitting for a horror film, almost as if someone has written it.
I show the creepy girl being killed by the man in the gas mask as this shows the audience that the beginning of the trailer was significant. It also makes the audience ask questions by using Roland Barthes enigma code. The man in a gas mask is re-introduced and the audience are reassured that he is a villain.
I have put the tagline into the trailer after the clip of the creepy girl being killed. The tagline is "Face Your Fears', which suggests that the group of friends are facing their fears.
After the tagline, there is a cut to Sarita's face with blood on and a jump scream to scare the audience. It then cuts to the release date which is october 2015 and usually horror films are released in october, because of halloween. It also has Facebook and twitter informations to show the audience how to spread awareness for the film.
Right at the end of the trailer, I have a jump scare to leave the audience feeling on edge. This makes the audience anticipate the actual film.
In my teaser trailer I have only used loud sound effects to show significant scenes. It is only 23 seconds long so I have put lots of different jump cuts ranging from clips of the group running away from the villains or the villains themselves.
For my theatrical poster I have kept it consistent with my trailer as I have used the same font for the title and the image is of the creepy girl> however I did change the colour of the font to red to make it stand out more. The tagline of the film is on the poster. This along with the title will help build brand identity of the film and this will help with social media advertising as people will tweet and write status' about the film again helping build brand identity. I have edited the image by making it less bright and putting a green tinge on it. I have done this for effect as the contrast has made the blood on her clothing appear more apparent and the lights look brighter and the graffiti on the wall stands out. The green effect and minimising the brightness has made the tunnel appear more grimy, giving the picture a more horror vibe.
The title is consistent with the rest of the products. The images is large and fits the genre as the image uses low key lighting and features one of the main antagonists in a bloody dress. This implies the genre to the audience and will make horror fans want to watch the film. There is a transparent image of one of the villains behind the text. I did this to intrigue the audience as it isn't clear what it is unless they watch the trailer. because of this the trailer and the poster link together.
I have called my magazine SCREEN as it has film and movie connotations. I have used a bold white font for the masthead to make it recognizable. I have included cover lines of latest news from film festivals and awards. I have also added more films to get other people interested. Again I have used the same font for the title of THE HUNT to build brand identity.
I have used the same image I did on my billboard on my DVD cover, this shows that they belong to the same film. I have sued a quote from a newspaper. This makes the audience want to buy the DVD or watch the film if they see good reviews from well known presses. Again the same font is used for the title.
I have layered sound to get the desired effect needed to build jump scares.
I added a jump scare to make the audience feel shocked. This is a close up of the creepy girls face who the audience has just seen running away in the opening scene. This may tell the audience that according to Vladimir Propps theory, the creepy girl is the antagonist/villain.

Question 3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
After getting audience feedback on my plot ideas, the rest of my group and I combined our plots together to get one which the audience wanted and we decided on a final plot. After doing this I showed members of my target audience the final plot idea and asked them to choice a name most suitable for the film, from the list of names my group and I generated. We found that 'The Hunt' was the most popular name, so we decided to call it The Hunt. The name 'The Hunt' does represent the narrative very well, as the film is about a villain who hunts down a group of people. It is also conforms to standard horror film conventions as a lot of classic horror films have names like, 'The Exorcist, The Ring, ect. Because of this potential audiences will be able to identify that it is a horror film, and this will make horror audiences want to watch the film.
After choosing 'The Hunt' as the title, I created 3 different title ideas, by using horror style fonts, which I found online. The audience feedback I had for this was hard to analyse as the audience liked all the title ideas, which mean that I had to ask my group which one they preferred. I finally chose one. In the case of choosing a film title font, audience feedback was not very useful as I still could not decide which title to chose.
After doing my first draft I gave my target audience a questionnaire, which I generated. The questions I asked were, How old are you?, Where do you fit on the JICNAR scale? - These questions allowed me to identify whether or not the people I asked were in my target audience range, and most were. I asked the questions, What genre do you think my trailer is representing?, Do you think it fits with the conventions of the genre it is supposed to be representing?, What conventions of the genre dose it follow?, Does the music fit well with the genre?, What do you think the narrative is about?, What are the good things about my trailer?, What could be improved?. I asked all these questions to make sure that the genre of the film I was representing was recognizable, which means it will appeal to people who are fans of the horror genre. The overall response to the questions about the genre was positive, as everyone I asked were able to identify what genre it represented. This means that I have done a good job when it came to the representation of the horror genre. The type of horror conventions, according to my audience, that I followed were, costumes, music, narrative, setting, darkness, churches, blood, victims, possession, satanic symbols and others. The reason as to why I asked the audience what they thought the narrative was about was because I wanted to make sure my trailer was easy to follow and the narrative made sense and included both equilibrium events and disequilibrium events. I asked the audience what was good about my trailer, so I could keep the good things in the trailer when I re-edited it. The questions about the improvements helped me a lot when it came to re-editing my trailer as I added in a jump scare at the end of the trailer as that is something my target audience wanted.
I interviewed members of my target audience. I asked them overall what they thought of my trailer and they all said good things, like it looks professional and like a real trailer. I asked them about the genre and whether it fits expectations of the genre. All of them recognized that it was horror genre which is good as now I know that I have stuck to the conventions. I asked about my print products and what they would change, and some said that they would redo some of the photography. They all said that all the products fit together as they follow the same house styles.

Film Logo Ideas
These are my masthead ideas. I have used Dafont to find these logos. I used fonts from the horror category as it will obviously relate to the narrative of the trailer. I experimented with a white and black backgrounds. On the white background I used all black fonts and on the black backgrounds used a mix of red and white. I decided the red looks overdone so I'm not going to use them.
Audience Feedback on Film Logos
I narrowed my logos down to my 3 favourite ones, I then asked members of my target audience to chose which was their favourite one. This is because I realise that the white font against the black background works really well and gives it a modern feel as opposed to old horror film logos which are usually red font on a black background.
